January 18th, 2012Letter from Phoenix Union High School District to Parents of Phoenix Elementary District #1
SPANISH
Dear Community Member:
Of the seven governing board members elected to serve the residents of Phoenix Union High School District, five members represent distinct geographic districts or wards. Every ten years, Phoenix Union must review the boundaries of its five governing board wards, and if necessary, re-draw those wards in order to keep each ward equal in population, and without diminishing minority representation. Because of rapid population growth in some areas of the school district, and population loss in other areas, new ward boundaries have to be created.
That process is beginning over the next two weeks with public meetings to gather community input at the following locations:
Ward 1: Tuesday, January 17, 6 p.m.
Cesar Chavez H.S. Room 5104, 3921 W. Baseline Road, Laveen, 85339
Ward 2: Wednesday, Jan. 18, 6 p.m.
South Mountain H.S. Pod 68, 5401 S. 7th Street, Phoenix, 85040
Ward 4: Monday, January 23, 6 p.m.
Metro Tech High H.S. Banquet Room, 1900 W. Thomas Road, Phoenix, 85015
Ward 3: Tuesday, January 24, 6 p.m.
Camelback H.S. Library, 4612 N. 28th Street, Phoenix, 85016
Ward 5: Wednesday, January 25, 6 p.m.
Maryvale H.S. Lecture Hall, 3415 N. 59th Ave, Phoenix, 85033
Any resident of the Phoenix Union District can attend any of the five community meetings. The public can also participate by drawing and submitting maps using a free online mapping program at www.phoenixunion.org/redistricting. We invite you to attend one of the meetings and participate in this important task.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kent P. Scribner
Superintendent
